Conference motto: "Standards and Interaction between Museums"

The fourth ADIT-2000 conference was held in Vladimir under the motto "Museums and the Information Space: The Problem of Informatization and Cultural Heritage." The conference discussed the concept of a network of educational correspondent centers aimed at disseminating practical skills in the use of new information technologies within the museum community. The conference also recognized the need to establish a strategic partnership with the Association of Museums of Russia. A key outcome of this conference was the decision to grant the association the status of a legal entity—a non-profit partnership (NP ADIT), operating on the principles of networking and ensuring the coordination of the efforts of the museum community and its partners in the development, implementation, and promotion of new information technologies in museum activities.

Key conference results:

  1. A mechanism was developed for reorganizing ADIT into a non-profit partnership operating on the basis of networking and ensuring the coordination of the efforts of the museum community in the development, testing, improvement, implementation, and promotion of information technologies;
  2. Paths for creating a network of educational and correspondent centers focused on disseminating practical skills in the use of information technology in museum activities were outlined;
  3. A concept was developed for restructuring the ADIT core web server, creating a special section dedicated to the development, presentation, discussion, resource provision, and implementation of partnership projects carried out by Association members.

The most important organizational decision of the conference was the transformation of ADIT from an ICOM national committee into a non-profit partnership open to new members. The charter defines the scope of activities, goals of the new ADIT, and the means to achieve them.
