During the conference, the second "Museum Computer Festival" was held jointly with the Open Society Institute (organization deemed undesirable in 2015), with 11 museums participating. The conference and festival were a great success and were already regarded by participants as traditional events. However, it became clear that the Association needed change: it had "outgrown itself." The organization's format of simply holding a conference once a year no longer satisfied either its participants or its leadership. The need arose to create a permanent partner network with a system of coordination and consulting centers.
"In Yaroslavl, it is planned to discuss the issue of creating a Russian network for national heritage (RUSSIAN HERITAGE NETWORK). A number of consultations on this issue have already been held with the Head of the Department of Libraries and Information of the Ministry of Culture of Russia, Evgeny Ivanovich Kuzmin (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.), one of the initiators of the LIBNET Program "Creation of an All-Russian Information and Library Computer Network." The idea of creating a museum network is very consonant with this program. The main idea of creating a network is the official presentation of information on the Russian national heritage on the Internet. Such figures as how many museums there are in Russia, what is the volume of the museum collection, how many immovable monuments are registered in our country and what kind of monuments these are can only be given by the official representative of the state - the Ministry of Culture. However, the network is an information infrastructure and a lot of useful side things can be carried out in it - teleconferences, navigation in complex information search, educational initiatives, all kinds of professional reference books, etc. The official side of this issue and independent public initiatives And we will discuss this at our Third Annual ADIT'99 Conference."
